Jannicke Mikkelsen, FNF
Payload Specialist, Live-Stream, Cinematographer
Jannicke is an accomplished filmmaker and Cinematographer specialized in establishing high-tech operations in hazardous environments. A Cinematography Masters' graduate of the National Film and Television School (NFTS), she has worked on multiple innovative film projects as Film Director and Director of Cinematography, including shooting several of David Attenborough’s wildlife films and directing QUEEN’s VR the Champions virtual reality experience. Jannicke was also named as one of the UK and Norway’s most influential women in tech. She began her film career after training for the Olympics as a Norwegian speed skater. She was the perfect candidate to join the One More Orbit crew because there would be so many unforeseen technical challenges live-streaming and producing a feature documentary on board the Gulfstream G650ER.
What we didn’t know at first was that we would also need to live-stream the entire mission from start to finish, broadcast live to CNN from the North Pole, and host multiple live video-link Q&A sessions with schools around the World. Two weeks before launch we discovered connectivity in a jet traveling at 92% of the speed of sound would be near impossible. Luckily, technology is Jannicke’s passion and she jumped right into this expanded role, coordinating with the global satellite companies Inmarsat and Satcom Direct. She even commandeered an idle G650 in London for crucial pre-mission ground testing. Getting the satellite live-stream setup working should have been a year-long project for a medium-sized team, but Jannicke made it happen by herself in just a few weeks!
When she’s not filming movies or live-streaming world speed records Jannicke splits her time between London and her hometown in Norway.
